| The George Mason Open is the championship tournament
open to anyone, including non-members. This annual
event is regulated by the Fairfax Amateum Lawn &
Tennis Association. The association is responsible
for governing rules and qualifying participants
for the Open.
Of all the venues in the Faifax Amateur Lawn
& Tennis Series, the George Mason Open is
the only one that takes place at a major college
campus. Although it does not have the biggest
tennis center in the series (Wakefield Park does),
it has the greatest number of courts scattered
throughout the campus. This allows numerous matches
to take place at different parts of the campus,
based on availability.
The George Mason Open was originally founded
by George Mason back in the 1700's, who was an
avid tennis player himself. The event is named
in his honor for the dedication he gave to the
sport and the support he gained throughout the
community.
